Hyper 100

Berghaus

2017

Hyper 100 was developed to explore how far a waterproof shell could be reduced without compromising functional movement or weather protection.

At the time of launch, it was the world’s lightest three-layer waterproof jacket.

The challenge was not simply reducing weight, but deciding where structure, protection and stability still needed to remain.

The design focused heavily on movement behaviour under use. Pattern cutting was developed around active arm positions to maintain mobility without introducing excess material or instability elsewhere in the garment.

Material placement and construction were carefully controlled to remove unnecessary weight while preserving the durability and weather protection expected from a three-layer shell.

The result was a highly stripped-back waterproof system that remained functional under movement, rather than becoming lightweight at the expense of usability.
